Celebrating Academic Excellence

Celebrating Excellence: Adonis Abboud Trust Fund Empowers Sierra Leone’s Future Leaders

In a powerful show of support for education and perseverance, the Adonis Abboud Trust Fund has honoured 12 exceptional students from universities across Sierra Leone-recognising not only their academic achievements but also the determination and resilience behind their success stories.

The scholarship awards, presented to students from institutions including IPAM, Fourah Bay College, Njala University, Ernest Bai Koroma University of science and Technology, Milton Margai Technical University and the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), highlight a shared vision: empowering young people to transform their futures through education.

Each awardee received Le 3,000 and a Commemorative trophy- symbols of recognition for academic excellence and a reminder that hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed.

Stories of Determination and Hope

For many recipients, the award represented more than financial support; it was a moment of affirmation.

Abu Bakarr Kpaka of the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone, described the recognition as timely encouragement that will inspire students to remain focused on their goals. Njala University’s Esther Gborie echoed similar sentiments, nothing that the award reflects years of persistence and commitment to her students.

One of the most moving stories came from Samuel Kamara of Science and Technology, Magburaka Campus, who achieved an extraordinary GPA of 4.88. Having lost both Parents, Kamara spoke about balancing academic life with gold mining to finance his education-a testament to resilience that deeply resonated with those present. He described the initiative as life-changing, offering hope to students facing significant challenges.

A Vision Rooted in Personal Experience

The Trust Fund was established by Dr Adonis Abboud, Chairman of Transnational SL Ltd and founder of pikin Bizness, whose personal journey inspired him to invest in the next generation.

Addressing the awardees, Dr Abboud congratulated them for their commitment and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence. He also delivered a message to parents and communities, emphasising the importance of keeping children in school and prioritising education as a pathway to opportunity.

Investing in Sierra Leone’s Future

Beyond recognising individual achievements, the initiative reflects a broader mission- building a culture of academic excellence and ensuring that financial hardship does not limit potential.

By celebrating students from diverse universities and academic backgrounds, the Adonis Abboud Trust Fund hopes to inspire others across Sierra Leone to pursue their dreams with determination and confidence.
